TIMR's publication activities are closely linked to its research studies. Its monthly journal THE TOSHI MONDAI (Municipal Problems) has been published since 1925 except during the war and post-war period from 1945 to 1950. The journal (A5, average of 144 pages, published on the first day of each month) selects feature topics from current urban policies and issues, and carries other articles, book reviews, current topics and index of current municipal literature (the index is compiled by the Municipal Reference Library). Feature topics, other than municipal administrative and financial issues, are drawn from fields of industry, economics, housing, environment, welfare and education.

Other annual TIMR publications include Toshi Chosa Hokoku (Urban Research Report), Toshi Mondai Kenkyu Sosho (Municipal Problems Study Series: urban issues and governance covering fields including politics, economy, society, administration and finance) and Toshi Mondai Booklet (Booklet on Municipal Problems: basic information for researchers, practitioners and citizens.)
Commemorative books have been published to celebrate 50th, 60th, 65th, 70th, 75th and 80th anniversary (2002) of TIMR.
